Mid-Term Reflection
The comments that seemed to be most useful to me in my dialogic journals
are the ones where my classmates wrote their own opinions of the essay we had
read as well as connecting it back to other previous articles. A good example of
this is from Vanessa when she commented on John Gatto's article. She said,
"School can be very dry and boring but it is important. I think that school is
catored to one type of student, not all! Like Professor X questions why do all
students need to read the same book if they all go into different professions?"
With comments like these I was able to brainstorm for my exploratory essay and
come up with good, thorough connections between articles.
When I gave feedback to my classmates I believe I stated my opinion, A LOT! I
also gave my idea as to what I thought the article was about as well as
contradict what the person discussed in their connection section of the dialogic
journal. I found a good example of this is in Kyra's notebook. I wrote, " I may
be wrong but what I gathered from this article was that intertextuality is the
deeper meaning within the text. I agree with you saying that good ideas come
from multiple ideas/thoughts/people. What is lexicon? Do you believe that there
is any original writings left?" I believe the comments were useful to my
classmates because I was honest and did not hold back. I think that the second
half of the semester I will continue to leave comments like this because
everyone said that they were very helpful.
When pondering
our class discussions the one when we talked about the shows we watched when we
were children and when we discussed what made a good and bad student and a good
and bad teacher. All of the class discussions we had were very helpful because
they helped me understand the articles we read and apply them to everyday
things. They also helped me come up with my inquiry proposal. Although I do not
say much during our class discussions I am constantly listening and taking
notes. I am just a quiet person and do not stating my opinion in front of the
whole class.
Based on the first half of the semester I have
enjoyed English 1102 very much. I think that Lucy is a great teacher and I have
learned a lot since class began.
